The folk mobile app ("Contacts by folk") lets you call your contacts from your own phone number. folk records each call, transcribes it, and adds a summary to the contact's profile. You can follow up right after hanging up without taking notes during the call.
Note: Call recording is available in the folk mobile app on iOS and Android. If you don't have it yet, see Download the folk mobile app.
Verify your phone number
Before your first call, verify the number you want to call from. You only need to do this once. Your contacts will see this number when you call them.
Open the folk mobile app and go to Settings.
Tap Call recording.
Tap Verify my number.
Enter your phone number in international format (for example +14155552671) and tap Call me with a code.
folk shows a six-digit code on screen and calls your number. Answer the call, open your phone's keypad and type the code. You don't need to talk to anyone.
Once the code is confirmed, you'll see Your caller ID is verified.
You can verify more than one number. If you do, pick the one folk should use under Settings > Call recording > Used for calls. folk will also ask which number to use the first time you place a call.
Call a contact
Open the contact you want to call.
Tap Call in the actions under their name, or tap their phone number and select Call.
The first time, allow folk to use your microphone.
During the call, you can mute yourself, switch the audio output (speaker, headphones…) and tap End call to hang up.
What happens after the call?
The call appears on the contact as Phone call with [contact name] as soon as you dial. Missed and failed calls are logged too.
While folk processes the recording, the call shows Transcribing the call…. For a short call, the summary is usually ready within a few seconds of hanging up.
Tap the call to see the summary: why you called, what was discussed, and any decisions or next steps.
Below the summary, you'll find the full transcript, split by speaker and timestamped.
The call is visible on the contact in both the folk mobile app and the folk web app.
Who can see your calls?
Your verified number appears as a Phone source in your connected sources in the folk web app. You choose how much your teammates can see:
Private: only you can see your calls.
Activity only: teammates see that a call happened and who was on it, but not the content.
Full access: teammates can also see the summaries and transcripts.
FAQ
Are all my calls recorded?
Every call you place through folk is recorded and transcribed. Calls made from your phone's regular dialer aren't recorded.
Can I listen to the recording?
No. folk keeps the transcript and the summary, but there's no audio playback.
In which language is the summary?
Summaries are always written in English, whatever language the call was in. The transcript stays in the language that was spoken.
Can I receive calls with folk?
No. Call recording only works for outgoing calls placed from the folk mobile app.
I see "You've reached the number of connected sources included in your plan."
A verified phone number counts as a connected source, like a mailbox. Remove a source you no longer use or upgrade your plan to add your number.
How do I remove a number?
Go to Settings > Call recording, tap the number, then tap Remove caller ID. You can verify it again later.
Do I need to tell the person I'm calling that the call is recorded?
Depending on where you and your contact are located, the law may require you to inform them and get their consent. Please check the rules that apply to you.
