Following up with leads at the right time, with the right context, is a tedious and manual process — but it’s also what gets you to close your next deal. With the Follow-up Assistant, we remove the guesswork and make sure you never forget to follow up again.
Using AI (powered by GPT-5), the Follow-up Assistant analyzes your inbox, calendar, and WhatsApp conversations to proactively notify you when a conversation has gone quiet and it’s time to reconnect. You’ll get a notification in your inbox or in-app, along with a suggested reply crafted in your tone of voice and tailored to your past conversation.
How it works
The Follow-up Assistant automatically detects if a conversation has gone inactive. If there’s a pending action or next step based on the context of the conversation, the Follow-up assistant will suggest whether it’s time to follow up.
We generate follow-ups for two types of conversations:
Email conversations (Google or Microsoft) → We analyze threads where there’s been at least two exchanges in the last two months (one sent by you, one by the contact). If the conversation has gone quiet and there’s an open action, we’ll generate a follow-up suggestion with a pre-drafted email reply.
WhatsApp conversations → If you’ve had an active chat with a pending action, the Follow-up Assistant will generate a follow-up suggestion and prompt you to send a message. When you click the follow-up CTA, you’ll be redirected directly to WhatsApp Web where you can send your message.
The process
Identify active conversations
At least 2 email exchanges in the last 2 months
At least 1 email sent by the contact
At least 1 email sent by you
Detect conversations that went inactive
We use the LLM to analyze each email and determine whether there’s a pending action. If no action is required → no follow-up is generated.
If pending action → the Follow-up Assistant creates a suggestion, with a draft message ready in your style
Follow-up Assistant settings
Go to Settings > Follow-up Assistant to customize how it works:
Only include people you’ve met → Enable follow-ups only with contacts you’ve had calendar meetings with.
Timing → Decide when a conversation is considered inactive (e.g. 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 1 month, 2 months)
Filter by group → Choose which contact groups you want to generate follow-ups for (or apply to all).
By default, the Follow-up Assistant is enabled — but you can disable it anytime when you connect your email to folk.
Notifications
Suggested follow-ups will appear:
In the Notification Center in your folk workspace
By email (configurable in Settings > Notifications)
As a banner on the relevant contact’s profile
Taking action
When you receive a suggestion:
For emails, click Follow-up to open a draft reply pre-written in your tone of voice, ready to send.
For WhatsApp, click Follow-up to be redirected to the relevant WhatsApp Web conversation, so you can send your message directly.
Important considerations
The Follow-up Assistant only works if you have connected your email or WhatsApp to folk
Only conversations with at least 2 exchanges in the past 2 months will generate suggestions.
CC’d emails are excluded.
