Learn how to use AI based fields directly from folk

What is AI field?

We introduced the option to fill custom fields with AI.

You can get a field automatically filled automatically based on a prompt you define.

Once it’s set up, folk uses the information stored in the record — like names, emails, notes, company details, or pipeline stages, interactions — to generate a relevant value for that field.

You can use it to:

  • Keep text formatting consistent (for example, capitalization or naming conventions)

  • Pull out or summarize key information from other fields (for example, key topics discussed in last interactions)

  • Create simple categorizations, labels, or short descriptions (for example, categorizing companies if they are B2B or B2C with a tag)

  • Find additional data on the web (for example, finding the last news article about companies)

AI field works across people, companies, and deals, helping you keep everything structured without extra effort.


How to set up an AI field

  1. Open the group and a view where you want to use it (Contacts, Companies, or Deals).

  2. Add a Custom field or an AI field by clicking the + in the column header.

    Note the AI field is a text field with Filled with AI settings enabled.

    Fill with AI option is available on

    • Text custom field

    • Date custom field

    • Select custom field

    • Multi-select custom field

    • Number custom field

  3. In the field settings, enable Fill with AI.

  4. Write an AI prompt that tells the AI what to generate for this field.

    A prompt is a clear instruction that should reference the fields you want the AI to read — using fields as variables e.g. {Job title}, {Company}, or {Notes}.

    Prompt examples:

    • “Generate a short description of this contact based on their {notes}.”

    • “Classify this deal as High, Medium, or Low priority using {status} and {notes}.”

    • “Extract the main pain point mentioned in the {Notes}.”

    You'll be also able here to enable options like

    • Search from the web

    • Auto-fill based on defined trigger

5. Enable (save) the field.

Once saved, folk will:

  • Generate values for existing records using your prompt

  • Allow manual edits for individual cells

  • Re-generate values on demand or in bulk

Generate values in bulk

Once Fill with AI is set up, you can apply it to multiple records at once:

  1. You can do it through the header - it will generate for all contacts in the view (you can use filters to curate the list)

  2. Right-click and choose Fill with AI on selected rows (or press ⌘ + Enter on Mac).

  3. The field fills automatically for each selected record based on your prompt.

Best practices for prompts

  • Be specific: The clearer the instruction, the more accurate the result.

  • Reference other fields: Use variables like {First name}, {Company}, or {Notes} in your prompt.

  • Test & refine: Try a few records manually first and adjust your prompt for quality.

  • Limit scope: For categories or tags, suggest the format you want (e.g., “Return only one category tag”).

Where you’ll see the AI-generated field

Once it’s created, the field shows up in a few places:

  • As a column in your table views

  • On the person, company, or deal profile

  • As a variable you can use in email sequences and automations

If you use the custom field in Messages, folk will automatically pull the generated value into your draft.

When to use AI fields

Data cleanup

You can clean your data using the AI field “Clean data”. We provide a pre-made prompt by default, and if you choose to create your own, make sure it keeps your text consistent (capitalization, formatting, naming).

Categorization

  • Assign segments like industry, budget range, or lead type

  • Identify sentiment or intent from conversation notes

Enrichment & summaries

  • Generate short summaries of past interactions

  • Surface key attributes that aren’t tracked elsewhere

Extracting data

  • Extract key discussion topics of the last interactions

  • Extract key competitors mentioned in the notes

Pricing

AI fields are included in your folk subscription as follows:

  • 2000 AI fields generations per month in the Standard plan

  • 5000 AI fields generations per month in the Premium plan


Limitations

  • Works best on text or long-text fields.

  • AI can only interpret the data already in folk (it doesn’t fetch external web data).

  • Quality depends on how precise your prompt is.
